Life Transitions

Facing life’s challenges is essential.

Graduation, independence, employment, financial freedom, relationship, marriage all ring with a sense of accomplishment and a note of successful development. At the same time, they increase the need for responsibility and bring their fair share of challenges.

However, regardless of level of accomplishment, and in any order, there remain unique challenges faced by some young men.

Difficulty understanding oneself in certain phases can lead to marked difficulties in work and relationships.

A better understanding of oneself helps foster the ability to handle adversity (e.g., job loss, divorce, the death of a loved one, moving away from family) across each phase of young adulthood.

Gaining the right understanding is essential.

Without confidence in oneself, how is one supposed to navigate through challenges?

Young men clearly have to continue to assess and often redefine their own expectations and desired outcomes.

This ability allows for improved relationships and taking advantage of opportunities that present themselves, such as a career transition.

Preparation is essential.

Therapy can help you plan and learn ways to overcome the challenges you face as you move through different stages of your life. It can help you deal with both the known and unknown changes that are guaranteed to come in anyone’s life.

Learning to manage and navigate those transitions makes more sense than leaving it to luck or misfortune. When I work with clients, we discuss effective ways to deal with changes that can increase stress in one’s life. Preparing in advance helps one face challenges.

Throughout the process, I try to help clients learn to manage stress, develop strategies to cope with unexpected challenges, and become more self-aware. Depending on the client’s specific needs, I use several therapeutic approaches designed to help reduce stress and cope with change.

Let’s face those transitions together.

Don’t wait until the problem becomes overwhelming. With planning and skill development, you can learn to face those transitions positively.
